I have expertise in physical-biological coupling in the coastal ocean including the land-to-sea interface, and long experience in working on arctic and sub-arctic environments. In addition to working on polar environments, I study the contribution of temperate microphytobenthos inhabiting intertidal mudflats on coastal carbon cycle. I am interested in understanding how physical and biogeochemical changes affecting the land-to-sea fluxes can modulate ecosystems, carbon cycle, and air-sea fluxes of CO2. I combine regional numerical ocean-sea ice-biogeochemical models with in situ and space remote sensing observations to track the sources and fate of terrigenous matter within the coastal ocean.
