About us

We focus on the coastal ocean dynamics from temperate to arctic regions, with a particular interest on the land-to-sea interface. We intend to decipher the impact of land-to-sea flux alterations on coastal biogeochemistry, ecosystems, and air-sea-sediment gas exchanges. To achieve this, we combine sophisticated numerical models of the ocean, sea ice, and biogeochemistry with both in situ and satellite remote sensing data.

International Workshop on Coastal Arctic Sciences

La Rochelle, 22–23 September 2026

An international workshop entitled 'How Land-Sea and Sediment-Water Interfaces Reshape the Coastal Arctic Ocean' took place at La Rochelle University on 22–23 September, 2026.

The event was organized by Vincent Le Fouest of the LIENSs Laboratory (LIttoral ENvironnement et Sociétés, UMR 7266 CNRS-Université de La Rochelle). It operated within the framework of the International Research Network (IRN) LittoARC, led by V. Le Fouest at LIENSs and supported by CNRS Écologie & Environnement for the 2026–2030 funding cycle.

Approximately thirty researchers representing thirteen laboratories across Europe, Canada, and the United States participated to present contemporary advances in the field. Scientific contributions spanned multiple disciplines and methodological approaches, including high-resolution coastal ocean-ice-biogeochemistry modeling, in situ and satellite remote sensing observations, sediment biogeochemistry and sediment-ocean exchange processes, and artificial intelligence applications in coastal ocean sciences. Beyond global assessments, the workshop emphasized region-specific case studies across the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, Alaskan coastal margins, and Greenland fjord systems. The assembly convened investigators from seven countries with the objective of establishing collaborative frameworks for future research initiatives addressing coastal Arctic Ocean dynamics.
